the console

The one of a kind Aengus console was built in 1973 for Indigo Ranch studios in Malibu, California. This legendary console, regarded as one of the greatest sounding desks ever made, has over 100 gold and platinum records to its name, including everything from the 1990's nu-metal Ross Robinson era, plus multiple records by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Danny Elfman, Pearl Jam, Blind Melon, Olivia Newton John, songs from the Grease movie soundtrack, voiceovers for the movies Apocalypse Now and Platoon. It's legacy is huge.
Being the only console in service to have been personally modded by electronics wizard Deane Jensen, gives the Aengus its own unique sound unlike any other board in existence. From the specially designed 918 and 990 op amps, to the transformers in the mic pre's/line/fader amps, to the output transformer in the EQ - everything was customised by Jensen himself. The console's sound can be described as having all of the punch of an API, but all of the fatness of an 80 series Neve.
Indigo Ranch sadly closed its doors in 2006, all of the gear was removed before the studio was totally destroyed by a forest fire in 2007. The Aengus went into storage until 2012 when it was purchased by Marc Golde and shipped to Rock Garden Studios in Appleton, Wisconsin.
As of July 2025, the Aengus was purchased by The Joplin House and shipped across the Atlantic ocean. Watch the video of the arrival day below.
